AMTC has been part of my weekly routine now for just over a year and it brings me so much joy every week! A group of amazing people, from all walks of life, coming together for the love of musical theatre and belting out some great show tunes!

Being part of the Australian Musical Theatre Choir has been an absolute joy! The repertoire is always fantastic -  a mix of exciting, uplifting, and beautifully arranged pieces that make every rehearsal something to look forward to. I love the sense of community we’ve built; everyone is so warm, welcoming, and supportive, and it truly feels like singing with a family. Our conductor brings such fun and energy to every session. Her  quick wit, random jokes, and entertaining life stories keep us all laughing while we learn. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and caters to beginning students through to advanced.  I especially love our end-of-term concerts. They’re a wonderful way to celebrate our hard work and share the joy of music with others.

After my hubby of 36 years passed away,  I needed something to be apart of. I found this choir and chose it because, who doesn't love belting out good songs from  musicals! I also encouraged my daughter to attend and together we have found a great little community who love to sing and laugh together.  Just what we needed!
My family also LOVE coming to the little performance at the end of each term.  So much fun and joy in those gatherings.
Andrew, our choir director, is the best and imparts so much invaluable tips, tricks and knowledge to help us achieve beautiful results.
I love choir and am so glad that we found it just at the right time in our journey.

AMTC is the best organisation I have ever come across. It is a space of total acceptance, joy, excitement, and love. I have never been part of a community of so many people, none of whom I knew when I first joined, and been made to feel so welcome from the very beginning. There is repertoire for every taste, freedom to change parts or experiment with ideas and absolutely no feelings of restriction or strictness. It is a joy to go every Tuesday night – the ultimate energy giver. And we sound amazing! It is a community I feel completely a part of and am very grateful for.

I love that you do not need to audition and there is no pressure to perform. The choir is very inclusive and varied in terms of members.
They are accepting of all levels of ability, including strong singers who can carry me along. And, most importantly, that I wake up with a (new) beautiful song on my lips that will carry me through the week. Thank you!

I love connecting with this eclectic mix of friendly, like-minded lovers of musical theatre songs. It doesn't matter if you're a professioal singer or you just like singing. Many voices, many harmonies, as one song, one community. I've learned so much about music, singing, shows & songs just from being part of it. The whole process is very organised: notifications, payment, access to sheet music and recordings. I especially love that we repeat our parts as needed during choir time so we don't usually need to do homework, but the recordings of each session are available if we do. No matter how tired I am when I arrive, I always feel uplifted by the end. Robert, as the head of AMTC, is professional, friendly, an excellent pianist and voice coach, with a great sense of humour.

I’ve always loved music and musicals.  I was nervous to join a choir but took a chance and went WAY out my comfort zone to join this one when it started last year.  I absolutely love it!  Our musical director Tess is SO patient with us.  She is always laughing at herself and we always get to listen to her amazing stories.  The choir members are friendly and when everything comes together, I am always wowed at how amazing it sounds.  I always look forward to our Tuesday nightrehearsals as it’s the highlight of my week.

The Australian Music Theatre Choir is nothing short of a gift. As someone who has loved musical theatre since I was a kid, being in a room filled with like-minded people singing incredible repertoire once a week brought such joy into my life. Roberts genuine love for the material and skill at coralling a large group of enthusiastic (and often rowdy!) grown up theatre kids will always impress me. I’ve loved musical theatre forever but was never brave enough to sing with anyone… until I found AMTC. There are no auditions and no pressure to sing solo — it’s all about singing because you love it. It’s brought me so much joy, and I’ve finally embraced my inner theatre kid! Choir nights are the highlight of the week for so many of us. I’ve made amazing friends and discovered that maybe I do have a voice — and it’s really fun to use it.

After 1 year with the AMTC I am yet to sing a musical song that I haven't loved and Robert always picks a perfect mixture of both upbeat and entertaining and then more classical and emotional repertoire pieces for us to learn and perform each term. Our 2-hour rehearsals are SO much fun and easily the highlight of my week! Many, many friendly and welcoming members to make you feel like you belong straight away too!

I initially joined AMTC as a way to get out of the house more regularly, but I ended up finding so much more. I've discovered a welcoming community, meaningful friendships, and new skills in music literacy and vocal technique. Most importantly, AMTC has become a place I genuinely look forward to each week—a supportive, pressure-free environment where I feel encouraged and joyful.

Just a short note to endorse the AMTC for the enjoyment I’m finding in getting together with a wide range of people (across the generations) that have come together as a result of a shared love of Theatre Music.

It’s music that, with some application, is ‘getable’, and with conductor Peter’s able leadership, the group comes together magnificently!

Our concerts are very well attended and received with the audience always wanting more!

The fee to cover music availability is reasonable and (speaking personally) aids in ensuring attendance!

I joined the Castle Hill AMTC at the beginning of the year and it is without one of the best things that I have ever done.  It makes no difference if you are a trained vocal singer or just a “shower” singer, everyone is welcome and everyone is there because they love music and musical theatre.  Our music director Andrew is wonderful and makes our practices such fun and the hi-light is the end of term performance that we share with friends and family.  If you love singing,  don’t hesitate to come and join the AMTC – it will be one of the best choices you make

I am a member of the Wollongong Choir & our rehearsals & end of term concerts are a wonderful mixture of learning, song, laughter & meeting new friends. Our musical director is a consummate professional who ensures we have fun as we bring to life, beautiful music theatre songs, past & present. We often surprise ourselves at what we are able to achieve. Each week, we go home on a natural high.

I love singing with AMTC, the vibe is so fun, I loved the song choice, the welcoming encouragement from Robert, the Choir (Conductors?) and other singers in the group to just know it will all come together over the weeks of practicing, It feels to me as a place to belong and there's a loving vibe here, accommodating to all levels of singing experience from the newbie to expertised, the focus is on having fun, enjoying the singing together and for me singing along is one of the most perfectly enjoyable moments of each week.

The Highlight of My Week
Joining the Australian Music Theatre Choir has been one of the best decisions I've made. This 100-strong ensemble, led by the wonderful Robert Bertram, is the highlight of my week.
The choir is incredibly welcoming and diverse. Whether you're a semi-professional or self-taught like me, you'll fit right in. Robert is a fantastic teacher – funny, instructive, and somehow gets us sounding amazing after just an hour of rehearsal. Each term we learn great songs and work towards an end-of-term concert that's always rewarding.
If you enjoy singing, come along and give it a try. You won't regret it!

I am a new member to the AMTC in Melbourne and so far I am absolutely loving it. I have a musical background, which I've since long left behind as life has gotten in the way. The choir has reignited my love of singing, musicals, talking with like-minded choristers, and above all having loads of fun.
